We like to be Artist Advocates because (1) we want to support these talented people (2) we get to know some of them, which enriches our theatre experience
The first Cygnet production we attended was at the old location in 2003. We were so enchanted with the fabulously creative show, Bed and Sofa, that we signed up for a season subscription. And we’ve been subscribers ever since–ten years.
We want to ensure Cygnet continues to enrich the lives of people in the community. Legacy giving is essential for non-profits to achieve long-term financial stability and sustainability. We think Cygnet deserves our support, and we hope you will consider a legacy gift to Cygnet in your estate plan.
We know that ticket prices cover only a portion of a theater company’s total costs, so it has been very natural to give annually to enable them to continue to provide great choices in scripts, skillful actors, innovative lighting and scenery design, and superb direction. We have become ardent fans and introduced a host of people to Cygnet, which makes attending just that much more enjoyable knowing we will be seeing friends as well as great theater.
After becoming a subscriber, I started meeting some of the same people at performances and events. I began developing friendships based on shared common interests. These friendships included not just fellow theatergoers, but also Cygnet staff and performers.
After a while, I was sharing not only common interests, but also a desire this nascent theater be nurtured and grow into an established and flourishing theater with longevity. I wanted to be part of the success of Cygnet, as if it were a child and I a parent or aunt. This is family.
Anyone who has attended a performance at Cygnet is immediately aware of its physical structure: the actors in close proximity to the audience and the audience never larger than its 246 seats. This physical intimacy is what I feel on an emotional level and why I want to contribute to Cygnet Theatre.
Since their first performance of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, I’ve been involved with Cygnet Theatre as an usher, patron, donor, Artist Advocate, Swan and part of the Cygnet Legacy Society. When the opportunity to initiate my Living Trust came about, Cygnet Theatre was first on my list of distributions. I appreciate the help they have given me due to my disabilities always assisting me if and when there is a need. Theatre is my passion and Cygnet is a joy to behold with wonderful performances I have seen over the years and will continue to see.
Cygnet Theater offers some of the best theater performances in San Diego. Planned giving is one way I can ensure that Cygnet will be here for future generations of theater goers.
I joined Cygnet’s Legacy Society because I believe that legacy gifts are the foundation of Cygnet’s artistic independence and innovation. When Cygnet is financially strong, its artists are free to produce challenging, thought provoking work. This freedom is critical, and I want to do what I can to foster it.
Cygnet Theatre has given me so much pleasure throughout the years, nourishing my heart, soul, and mind with its outstanding plays. I am thrilled to help support the amazingly talented artists who make Cygnet Theatre a San Diego treasure.
It’s such a great feeling to come to a play and say, “I helped bring that actor to Cygnet!”
I really enjoy the opportunity to meet other Cygnet supporters through this group. It makes coming to the productions so much more enjoyable as I always see someone I know.
